The change to the Gregorian from the Julian calendar in England meant changing to a calendar in use in Europe since 1700: By an Act of its Parliament, the "start of the year" was moved to January 1st, N.S. (New Style)] from March 25th O.S (Old Style) so that the day following December 31st 1751 O.S. was now January 1st 1752 N.S. Also, the day following September 2nd 1752 N.S, was now September 14th N.S., that is an omission of 11 days, to correct an error in the length of the year which the Julian calendar had produced.
