• MARY KLASSEN (MIKA WILLMS) Peacefully, with family by her side, Mary (Mika) passed away at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband Ernest Klassen in 2004. Mary was born May 1, 1923 in Tiegenhagan, Southern Russia. She was the daughter of Henry and Maria Willms of Leamington, Ontario. She immigrated to Canada with her parents and sister Helene in 1925. She received her formal education in Southern Ontario and worked for the president of a large firm, Hiram Walker, in Windsor, Ontario for seven years, until she met Ernest Klassen of Winnipeg. They were married July 5, 1947 in Leamington, Ontario and moved to Winnipeg. Together they had three children, Gregory, Serena and Melanie. Their summer months were spent at Lake of the Woods, enjoying nature, swimming, boating, tennis and enjoyed many friendships along the way. Mary's greatest joy was walking hand in hand with Ernest, making plans for their children and grandchildren and being together as a family. Aside from being a loving wife and homemaker, Mary was active in fundraisers for the St. John's Ravenscourt School, The Winnipeg Art Gallery, and The Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club. She leaves to mourn son Gregory (Nancy), their children, Lura and Natalie and Greg's son Tyson; daughter Serena, her children, Warren, Charles, Romy, and Angelina (Colten) and great-grandchild Shep; daughter Melanie, her children, Micah (fiancé Joseph) and Trevor; sisters, Helene Spencer and Irene Woodsit (Gene); brother Harry Willms (Zilda); sister in-law Elsie Klassen and Helene Murdoch (Dean); brother-in-law Victor Klassen; and many special nieces and nephews. A special thank you goes to all the staff at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home for their kindness and compassionate care and to Reverend Mark von Kampen for his kind words and prayers before Mary's passing into Heaven. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 26 at the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, MB with Reverend Mark von Kampen officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Brookside Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Ernest. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Mennonite Church of Winnipeg.

  We likely met years ago, I am Marena Woodsit, mom is Irene Willms Woodsit from the Faith Mennonite Church in Leamington.  I knew your parents, your brother Bill and sister Cathy.  I am sorry for all the losses.  I also knew Rudy, his kids.  My mom and your grandmother I believe were first cousins.  The age difference was such that mom always referred to her not as Maria but Mrs. Krause.  I stumbled upon your name over a google search as I was looking up another relative, I am trying to find out about one of my mom's dearest cousins, Helen Mathies from Burlington, she was a Schellenberg and I know she has to be close to 100 if she is still alive, that is the question I am seeking.  My mom and her remaining siblings, Aunt Helen in St. Catharines, Uncle Harry in Winnipeg are not lucid due to old age and for my mom, a stroke and a subsequent fall so they are not able to search that information themselves.  Mom wouldn't even be cognizant for very long even if we told her that Helen is deceased or not, we didn't even tell her her eldest sister Mary passed two years ago bc of memory coming and going.  I am just interested myself in knowing whether or not Helen Mathies is still living and was wondering if you knew.

WOODSIT, Irene Anne

• Age 91, of Windsor and formerly of Leamington passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 25, 2021. Survived by devoted husband of 62 years, Gene Woodsit, and loving and cherished mother of Marena Woodsit of Leamington; Karla Fehr (Jake) of Kingsville. Dearest sister of Helen Spencer and brother Harry Willms (Zilda), and the late Mary Klassen. Dear step-grandmother of Mackenzie (M'kaela), Delaney, Aubrey and Avery Fehr. Special aunt to several nieces and nephews. Special thank you to Mom and Dad's PSW over the years, Elysia Bradley and the entire staff at Amica for their compassionate care. Born Anna Irene Willms, she is predeceased by her parents Mary and Henry Willms. Loving Mom and Oma to several pets both past and present. She was a lover of animals especially dogs and birds, loved reading and crossword puzzles, exercised and danced until she couldn't anymore. Her great sense of humor and sense of style will be missed by all her friends at church and in the community. May flights of angels sing thee (Irene) to thy rest. • Woodsit, Gene (Woody), Of Windsor, formerly of Leamington, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 21, 2023 in his 90th year. Gene is now reunited with his precious and most beloved wife Irene (2021). Loving and cherished father of Marena Woodsit of Leamington and Karla Fehr (Jake) of Kingsville. Dear brother of William of London. Dear step-grandfather of Mackenzie (M'kaela), Delaney, Aubrey and Avery Fehr. Dear step-great grandfather of Jensen Fehr. Dear brother-in-law of Helen Spencer of St. Catharines. Loving Daddy and Grandpa to many pets past and present. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He is predeceased by his parents Ely and Nora Woodsit, parents-in-law Harry and Mary Willms, sisters-in-law Mary Klassen and Dee Woodsit and brother-in-law Harry Willms. Gene was a well known and respected businessman in the community. He was Clerk of Mersea Township in the early 1960's, co-owner and partner of Leamington Sporting Goods Ltd., and their affiliated stores for many decades. After selling his shares in the Sporting Goods business, he ran the Essex County Associated Growers as Secretary Manager for several years, publishing the monthly County Grower and putting together conventions, managing the onion pools, servicing the grower community all while coming home after work and farming himself. When he retired and no longer farmed, Gene loved nothing more than puttering around in his vegetable garden, growing every vegetable and herb you could think of. Winters were often spent with Irene in sunny Florida and when they were back home, you could often see them going for drives looking at all of the crops or bicycling at Point Pelee National Park.
