MOST LIKELY SPARROW RETURNED TO
HALIFAX IN 1798
UPON THE BRIG INDUSTRY
According to a January 7, 1804 account, Samuel Sparrow once belonged "to the Merchant Ship Industry":
On the Seventh Day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and four Admon with the Will annexed of all and Singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of Samuel Sparrow formerly of Peckham in the County of Surrey, afterwards belonging to the ﮚ Merchant Ship Industry but late of Charlestown in ﮚ South Carolina deceased ...
The only other reference to a brig Industry possibly arriving on Cape Breton before Sparrow left for Charleston was on May 7, 1799, and this ship was an American brig.
As well, it should be mentioned, Sparrow arrived in Halifax in either 1774 (by his account) or in 1776 (by the account of DesBarres). Of interest, in 1776, the ship Industry (Nathaniel Pendleton, master) of 90 tons was given permission to sail from Liverpool to Boston, or to any other port in North America: The Parliamentary Register: Or, History of the Proceedings and Debates of the House of Commons ..., Volume 4, MDCCLXXVL, By Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons, February 1, 1776, pp. 2, 76.
