       January      

  
The 1  fair and Capt Hannears died hear in the night before
In which the Ended 1759. And the year begun
but God only knows who will See the End for death Spears not
any, the 2 Clear and Coald and we Turned out for to Larne 
the funral Execies or the Revasing of ye fire Lock Occasioned by the
death of Capt Hannears of Boston who was the first offecer of our
Regiment that dieed hear in this Garsion of Louisbourg.
       3 fair and a Shonnor a rived hear in five days from boston.
       4 fair wind at west and Cnpt Hannears was Intared hear with
grate Sollemenay haveing 48 men in arms to attend his
funerall with fireing three volews over his Grave.
       5 rain and worm weathear and all most all of our Sarits and Corpls
was Broke, the 6 fair and Coald and Shonnr a rived hear from
Boston, the 7 fair wind at West, the 8 Coald and Snow.
       ...... and Coald in ye day but Stormey in the night.
      10 Cloud and rain and worm for the Season of the year.
      11 fair and worm for ye Season and one hager of our regiment
was whiped thirtey Strips for disobedence of orders.
      12 Snow and Worm moredet Weather.
      13 fair and Worm for the Season of the year which is Commily
Coald and a Shonnr Sailed from hear for boston which had 
our Leters  . ... board, the 14 Snow but worm as Can be Expecd.
     15 Coald and Snow and Winday, the 16 fair and worm for ye Season.
     17 Worm moredet Weather, the 18 worm for ye Season.
     19 fair and the wind blew veary fresh and an Escout went
out from hear bound to Spanish river Consisting of 43 men
Com-manded by Leut henderson and Engs. Beary one Sarint 2 Corprls.
Thees went for to Carey blankets to Capt Daviess men
who was on Command their, and Cuteing wood their 
for the garsion. And ye Escout went their and
Returned in nine days

The 20 fair plesant weather for the Season of ye year.
       21 fair and worm, the 22 Clear and Coald weather
       23 fair and Coald, the 24 Worm for ye Season.
      25 Coald and Cloudy, the 26 Clear and Coald.
      27 Coald rain and the Fscoust returned that went out
Commanded by Leut Henderson and Engs Beary
      28 wind and Squorley and a drumbar belongin to Worbtons
Regiment was  Shott, for braking into a house and Stealein a Boox
of Sope, and for other offencess he had Commtted. And also 
a privet Soalder was Condemned to died with him, but arfter
haveing Come to ye place of Excusion he was repreved by the
Interseasion of one Capt Johnson for him. The dromb name
was Courey, and the other was Johnson, ye Later repreved. 
Also three more are to reseave other punnishment as whiping. 
The one is to have one thousand and the other two Each five hundred. 
The a foresaid had their Larst trial at a genral Coart marcha ....... 
on the 19 Inst when two was Sented to die, and ye others their punishment
      29 fair and Worm plesant weather, the 30 Clear and Coald.
      31 wind at N East and it was as Grate a Snow Storme as I ever
new in my Life. And thus Ends ye month with a Coalde Storme
and winter Like weathir but I think that for to take it in
genral it is as good weather as what we have in N-England
for ye Season of the year, and it is a worme winter

The 1  Clear and Extreeam Cold Wether.
       2 Clear and Coald winter Like wether; the 3 fair and Coald and the 
harbyer frouse over; the 4 Clear and Coald. ye 5 Cloody and rain.
       6 Worm for ye Season hear; the 7 fair but Coald and a Corpral who
Belonged to worbtons Regimt who had Stolen Six Shirt from his
Capt who fearing it would be found out he went out to a place 
Called Black Rock. And their Cuting one of his armes to that 
Degree that what with ye Lorse of blood and ye Coald he dieed their.
But before that he died he puled of his Coate and hatt and going
down to Edr of the vorter as it was throught with an Intent
of Drownding himself and be Cared off by it but he died
Before ye warter Came to him. So he was found and Bured.
        8 Snow but worm wether and ms Trewoue was bured hear a
woaman that belonged to our Regimt and to Capt Blake Compney.
        9 Clear and Coald ye wind at N-w and 2 Sloops went out from
hear bound to New England. the 10 fair and a Shonnor
arived hear from boston but Could not git in hear
Beacuse of ye ice that was in ye harbeyer of Louisbourg.
       11 Cloudy nnd Coald and we have news by ye a foresayed Shonr
that ye provence had granted to Each man that Stayed this winter
A bountey of foure pounds for our winter Service. Their
is a flying news hear that their hast been a fire in boston
which Burnt from the Town house to ye Long warf. A Shoner
went from hear bound to Boston.
       12 Clear and Coald and we heare that ye provence is desined to
have ye men Raised by ye first of apreil next.
       13 Cloudy and Snow but worm for ye Season of ye year.
       14 Cloudy and Coald and one alling Belonging to our
Company was bured, the 15 Clear and Coald for ye Season
and three Regler drums fell through ye Ice but was not drowned.

Burnt Shell to pound Coffey in. Extreatee of a Leter was
Red to us that Came from ye govonnor of Boston.
       18 Cloudy and Coald. ye 19 Clear and Coald.
       20 Clear and Coald wind at N-West.
       21 fair and worm and Leut marting went to Spanish river
to see Capt Davis. ye 22 Cloudy but worm wethre.
       23 worm wether, 24 Cloudy and worm and a Sloop
arived hear from boston which Broughtnews that ye
men was to be Leved by ye 15 of march next.
       25 rain and Worm fogey Wether.
       26 Clear and winda the wind at N.Wt.

hear one from Ipswich and ye other from Boston. The first
Says that their is a grate talk of it being Spanish War

a N-E Storm all day. 24 Clear and worrn wether.

Larst Night Leiut Henderson gave to ye Compnay a treet
and Inlisted 3 men for ye Ensueing Campain a gainst 
Cannad and Solomon Smith and Robart picket Inlisted.

The 1  fair and worm, the 2 fair and worm and i Enlisted again
for ye Ensueing Campain against Cannad and mount Reial.
       3 fair. 4 worm. I rote a leter to my farther, i also heard
a death Watch in ye iorn Grate but ye meeing i also tel only
think tha Some of my friends are deed at home.
        5 fogey and rain but worm, 6 fair ad Worm.
        7 worm but Cloudey, 8 fair, 9 Cloudy weather.
      10 Snow and rain wind at N - E, 11 Snow and rain wind at NE
 and a Sloop Came in hear, 12 fair and a Ship Came in hear. 
Also a Sloop arived hear from Hallefacts and by hir We have
News that ye fleet is to Sail to morrow for Louisbourg.
       13 fair and 2 Shoonners arived hear from halefacts.
       14 Cloudy and a Ship a rived hear from halefacts but brings
no news from that Porte. She is ye first yt arives hear
this Spring. Ye fleet is Expected hear daly.
       15 Snow and rain a winter Like Storm. A Shonnor
a rived hear from boston in foure days but brings no 
News only that their had been a fire in boston which 
Burned Down 260 houses which news we heard before.

 arfter noon and two Shoners arived hear fror halefactes
       17 fair and a Shoner arived hear from halefacts.
       18 Spring Like Weather to day but Some days are Coald

Keept by all ye inglish men in ye garsion of ye three
Regiler regiments and 150 of them marched round the
Rampars with drumbs beeting and Coulers flying. They

      26 fair and Several Wessels arived hear from Boston
and other portes. And i reseved 3 leters from my farther
also one from John Ward the third. And i was not Well.
       27 Worm and plesant, 28 fair. No News  Sarting.
29 and 30  fogey and rain. Thus Ends ye mounth------------

        1 Rain and Snow by Squorls all day wind at East. A bad
Storm Thus Comes on may more Like a Lion then a lamb.
2and3 Some fogey and Some days fair.
        4 fair morning but fogey in ye arfter noon and ye Regmt 
was under arms to be reuciad , a Sloop Sailed from hear
bound to Quebeck, 5 fair and plesant Weather.
        6 flying Clouds and winday and Several Wessels Came in hear
But No news by any of them, 7 Cloudey ye wind at West.
A Sloop Came in and a Shonnor went on Shore on the 
Light house Side but was Got of a gain by Charnle.
         8 flying Clouds and winda also. Two Sloops Came in hear
from New Enrland, 9 flying Clouds and ye wind Blew veary wat
hard at w. Two wesels Came in hear. Also I hear a death Ch .......
        10 fair and two Sloops and one Shonear arived hear from Boston. 
They bring News that Coll Bagley will be hear in a mounth.
Several Sail of Wessales are Seen in the Ray and one of them
which was a frigeet Stood So far up Gabroouse bay that
the genrl gave orders for ye piqueot gard to turn out and
go and See what they Weare doing their. Also Captn Davies 
Returned hear from Spanish river and brought with him
fifteene Sick men. All thees are of that partey that went
up heir Larst December.

A Sarigent and Six men went a gain to Gabroouse Bay.
        12 fair wind at N - W - and a Sloop arived hear, also a Sernt
and Six men went again to Gabroouse to watch the motsion
of the ships their and See if they Weare a Landing any men.
        13 fair and one Ship and tow brigs Came in hear which Was
they that Lay in at Gabrowse Bay.
        14 fair and a Shonnor arived hear from halefacts.
       15 Rain and fogey and a brig arived hear from Boston and a
Shonnor from Charleston, 16 rain and fogey. 17 rain and worm
and a Coute of fifteen men two Serints two Corpls Com Went
to St peters Commanded by Engs Beary
        18 rain and foge and a Shoner went from hear.
        19 foge and rain. It is a time of much work hear for Carpenders 
for thire is foure privetears a fiting out hear which will saill
Quickley, 20, 21, 22, rain and foge but Worm.
         23 rain and foge and Some wesels that was in ye Bay fired by
times all day and ye ile Land Battrey answard them.
         24 fair Wind at South and ye fame man of war Carived
hear in Eighte weaks from portemorth. A talk of a peace
and of Blowing up of this garsion.
         25 fair and one Ship of 74 and one 64 and one Catte and two
Snows and three Brigs arived hear from London.
Three priveter Sloops and one with Stors Saild from hear bound
to ye ileland of St Johns and one of them to go from their to Boston.
         26 fair. One Ship two Briges arived hear from portemourth.
         27 fair and five Wesels arived hear from Difreant portes.
         28 Rain. A grate talk of things to Come but all unsarting.
Genral Electsion at Boston and Some of our pepoll made it 
 a day of meirth and joy Some one way and Some an nother.

        1 fair. A Sloop arived from Boston. The Soilders of our
Room are a gain Shifted into other rooms  &
orders are also Given out by ye Genrl according to
the orders from home or his majsty; that all ye wa.lls and 
forticasions of Louisbourg be Layed Levell with ground as 
Soon as posabel,   d   2 fair and according to the Genl orders
from home the Genrl with 800 men begun to Lay Wast
the garsion of Louisbourg Begining at ye Blind oppersite the 
South gate and ye glassees and other works out Side ye Citey.
         3 fair and Six Wesels arived hear from Difreant portes in
New England. The work of ye Citdiall is going on in hast.
         4 fair ye wind East and five wesels arive hear but no News
by any of them, 5 rainey Weather and ye work goes on Stidey
         6 in Destroying ye Citey walls and Works out - Side ye Citey.
7-8 and 9 rainey Weather, 10 fair and twelve Sail of Wesels
Went from hear bound to Quebeck, also ye New-york fleat
arived hear Consisting of 3 Ships / brigs one Snow one Shonnor
         11 rain but worm and wesels arive hear daly from
        12 Difrent portes in new England, 13 fair and Coll Bagl
arived hear but Brought no men with him _________
        14 rain wind at wst and 2 Ships 2 brigs and 3 Snows Sailed
from hear for Quebeack, with all ye inveleads and Womean
Belongin to ye Regiments at Quebeack or mount rieal.

The
       15 rain. The Granedar that Stole money from one of his offecrs
of Worbtons Regiment he ye Soildar was by ye Sentance of a 
Courte marshall to receive one thousand Stripes. And when he
had Received 300 of them, this morning haveing got his iorns 
from of his hand he With a pice of List that Sarved him as
a garter he hanged himself in ye proue garard. And so he Got
Clear of his punishment, But i beleve that he jumped out
of ye fryeing - pan into a grater fire.
       16 Winday and rain. One Ship one Shonnor arived hear.
       17 fair. One Ship one brig one Shonnor arived hear from
New-york with a packett from Genral Hamerst
and one arives from St Johns; 18 rain Some times
      19 and Some times fair. Wessels going out and Some Comeing in.
      20 Dives news at presant, Genrl whitmors Regt have
orders to get redy to Embark, Genrl Hopson Regmt
also have orders to be in rediness to Embark to morw.
      21 this day the two Regmts Embark for Quebeack. 
     22 rain. It is my Birth day so this is ye Second that i have 
Seene hear. Thus time Spends away.
      23 fogey and rain. A Sloop Sails for Boston in whitch i Send
Letrs home. Nothing Sarting at presant.
24 and 25  rain and Coald for ye Season of ye year.
     26 rain. Three Ships one Snow one Sloop arived hear.
     27 fair Wind. at S-W. 3 Ships one Sloop arived hear. 
One of ye Ships is a man of War of 74 guns.
     28 rain and one hundread men arived hear from Boston 
to joyn our Regiment.

The
            1 Rain and fog. Wesals a rive hear from many places.
            2 fair and ye fleat Sailed for Quebeack with ye 2 Regimts.
We have also news by a Shonnor from Qubck that in
the Larst ingagement our pepole lorst 1300 men
and that ye french retreted with ye Lorse of 1800 men.
            3 Some times fair and some times rain,, and Captn fellars
arives hear from Boston but Larst from St Johns.
           4 fog and rain, 5 fair. A transporte Ship from boston arived
            hear with 80 Soilders to joyn our Regiment at Louisbourg.
           6 fair and 8 Sails of wesels went from hear bound to Quebeack.
We have News hear from boston that on ye 23th of may Larst 
the french was beatt-off with ye lorse of a grate many
men and 36 peices of Cannon and 8 morters and all other
Eutenchals that are used in Camps. And that is good News.
           7 ad 8 ad 9 and 10, rain but Worm now the Summear is Come-.
ing on. We have no news from any parts at presant.
Some Ships arive and Some Sail from hear to other partes.
           11 fog and rain. Two Ships arive hear from London
          12 ad 13 and 14 fair hott Summear Like Weather. Ye Work goes on.
          15-16 and 17 plesant weather. Nothing metreiall hapnes about 
this time, 18 only one Learrboy of Captn Davies Company
was mising from his gaurd. He Was fritened from his posst.
          19-20 plesant Weather and ye Lorst man was found in the
woods. He says he Was fritened from his poust by ye Divel. He also
Says that they Looked like Regulers to him. He is Confined in
order for trial, 21 fair. 22 rain and thundear.
          23 fair and ye fleat Sailed from hear bound to Halifacts With
Some of ye Cannon and Shott and Shells and morters.
          24 fair weather and I received a Leater from Brothear
at Glouster, in which I have ye Sorrowfull news of ye death of my
farther whos Sorrowfull Son i remain. Thus my frinds are taken
away by Death one arfter another & I holi Committe ye Care of
me and mine to almighty god, also to Keep and return me
home again in Safety to my frinds. A fleat arived hear. 
  

July

The
     25 and 26 fair. Nothing metreall happens at this time
of any kind. 27 fair but Cold.
     28 and 29 rain and Coald and So Continues for two days.
          30 fair. This day I am abused by one of ye maisons. The rangall 
Begun on ye account of his Stoping my Stuff and for
makeing use of ye Same. The old d - g gives me a Challing to
fight him but i Knowing his intent refuse and am Com-
mened for refuiseing ye Challing as I am or was a Soilder 
and he a Contracter in and with ye Kings Works their. I gave 
him his one with my tounge and made him ashamd of his
doing and So i let him run for he is an old D - m Scoundrell
          31 this day he is dismissed from ye King Works at Louisbourg
by Conll Basstead the Chief Engar their &C.  -----------------------


  

August

  
The
           1 foge. A Ship Comes tow of ye harber and Sends in his Boat
with a packeatt and ye Boat retming to ye Ship again She
makes Sail for Quebeack, 2 foge. A grate [ talk ] of peace But 
all unsorting at presant.
           3 from that to ye 11 Weather Contuenues as useall in ye Summr time. 
Wesels arive hear from difreant portes but no news by them.
My health is good at presant althoo it is a Sickley time
in our Regament., 12 rain and fog T  -------     -----------------------
   13 to ye 16 - the Summear runs away. All things go on Easeay
          17 fair and five of ye mines Was Sprung. Those are ye first.
   18 to ye 18 fair plesant Weather. 23 Sumear Like Weather. All
          24 things goes on still, and ye Sumer runs away in hast.
          25-26 and 27 = 28 thus We Spend our time for nought and gitt 
neare to ye Grave and to our Etarneal home Eather happey
or missrabell for Eves without End. This is as Sarting as death it
Sellf is for the Soule Eather to be in Everlarsting happness 
or misreay. Those two worlds reseives the whole of mankind.
  

August

  
The
          29 fair and a frigeate and 8 othear Wesells Sailed from hear
Bound to Quebeack with all Sorts of Stores. We also have
News hear that genral Johnston was Killed at mount Real
But it is unsorting as yett, 30 fair. A Shonnor arived hear
from boston but larst from Hallefacts and is bound up the
River. Their is also a talk of peace but Wornts Confairmasion.
This news Comes by a Shonnor in 8 Weaks from Doubland.
The work of distroying goes on and Will I hope be finished this
Season that our reigment may go home to new England,
          31 fair and two of ye mines was Sprung and that well too.
On ye 12 Inst ye maisons and Carpendars Begun to lay Wast
the walls from west gate round to ye fraime Bridg by hand,
haveing Each day a numbear of Sailors Belongin to ye men of war
to healp them. Se We go on Blowing up and pulling down 
the Walls of the faimous Citey of Louisbourg --------------------------


September

The
          1 flying Clouds and Wind. Several Wesels arive hear.
          2 fair morning but flying Clouds and rain in ye arfter-noon.
          3 fair. A Sloop Came in hear from boston and a Shonnor from
Casco Bay and are bound to Quebeack and mount Reial.
          4 fair. Three Sailors belongin to ye faime man of War Went
a Shore at ye Lighthouse. And they Going up to ye top of ye Same
one of the three fell down and is taken up deed an Nouf.
          5 fair, 6 amos Hilton being at Work almost Cuts of ye top of
his foot and is brought home lame. A Shoonr going from
hear bound to boston on hir being Sarched is found to have
a man onboard belongin to one of ye men of War, is Stoped
and all ye men are onboard ye man of war, but are to be 
Relesed on y Captn paying fiftey pounds for himself and men.
        7 and 8 fair, 9 fair and ye man that Was Killed at ye Lighthouse
was buread to day. 10 fogey and flying Clouds and three of the
men of War have orders for Sailing.
          11 rain and fog.

The
          12 Wind at west flying Clouds. Three Sloops and one Shoonr
Came in hear. 13 Coald Wind at S-W and three of the men of
War Sailed viz the fame ye Dorscsheir ye Norriage but I do
not know wheare they are bound,, 14 fair. We have news hear
from Quebeck that Captn Blak is wounded and his Engs Killed
also Some of his men. He Went from hear the begining of this Sumer
on Command in a privetear Shonr and he Landed their he and his
men as rangers, 15 a Ship arived hear from halfax.
          16 rain in ye morning but fair in ye arfter noon. This day five of
the mines Was Sprung on ye East Side of ye Citey and in Blowing Some
pepole Was wounded veary bad. The major of Worbtons Regimt had
one of his teath beat out by a(s) Stone. Also a Corpreal of ye
mearines had one of his legs broak, and a granidear of Worbtans
regimt had borth of his legs broak and are Cut of this Eveing.
The Captn of ye miners Was Wound in his face and Side.
          17 fair. A man of War arievs here. Three mines are Sprung and
Broak down one of ye garud houses and a Large Barrick.
          18 rain.Ye Corpel of ye mearines that had his legs Cut of Was buread to day
          19 rainy Weather. 20 fair. Some wesels arive hear but no News.
          21 fair. Two Snows arive hear from Quebeck. They bring News that genrl
Johnston and genrl mourreay have joyned their troops at mount reial
          22 fog and rain., 23 fair. We have news that ye King of  priusha
hast gained a Compleat victorey over ye french in Jarmeny.
          24 fair. A brig and a Shonor arive hear from Quebeck. They bring
News that mount Reial Surrendar to genral Hamerst to ye 18
Inst. Also we have news that Conterydicts that of august 29th

Battrey Was Blowen,. 4 fair. A Sloop Came in hear.
        5 fair. Also ye other tower at ye grand battrey with the Saly porte
at ye Ileland Battrey was sprung. 6 fair. 7 fair plesant Weather
        8 fair and three mines was Sprung which are ye Larst of all.
        9 Coald and rain. 10 rain. A Reioycing fire in honnor to ye Beirth
of Gorge ye Second King of England. 11 and 12 Clear and Coald.
     13 and 14 Stormey and Coald., 15 and 16 Clear and Extream Coald. 
        17 rain and Nine wesels went from hear bound to new England 
and a Bout fiftey of our regimt run - away from this Citey.
     18 and 19 nothing of moment happnes a bout this time.
        20 fair and Leut marting Came home hear with ye Comnand from
Spanish river, also Some more of our regmt runs a Way.
        21 Cloudy and Coald and all ye Enveleeds of our regmt Embark
on board ye boll Brig bound to Boston
        22 fair. Ye Colln Brig Sail for Boston.
        23 fair. Genral orders for our regmt to return home to Boston.
        24 i left ye King Works in order to go home to new England.
        25 mordrat for ye Season, 26 Capt  fellers Sail for Boston. 
     27 and 28 rain and Coald, 29 mordret for ye Season.
        30 fair. Captn Davis Compnay Embarked for New England.


December

The
        1 rain, The transports being redey orders are given for
our Regimt to Embark to morrow at 7 of ye Clock in ye morn
        2 fair. The regimt Embarks Bound to Boston.
        3 rain and two Ships Sail from hear bound to New york.
        4 fair and ye transportes went down to ye N-E harbyr and 
the men make a noys at their mounting gaurd.
Also my Captn thireetings to Confine me because that i would 
not Work for him for nought.
        5 rain. Three of ye transports [ Sailed ] with parte of our Regimt
 Bound for Boston.
  

December

The
        6 rain and we are onboard Slip wateing for a fair Wind.
        7 Snow rain and Coald, 8 flying Clouds Exceeding winda and 
rain. Our Ship had almost got on Shore for She Drifted.
    9 to the 13 Coald Cloudy with Conttreay Winds day after day.
        14 fair wind at Nth and three Shoonrs and one Sloop Sail from
hear bound for boston and Halifax.
        15 Clear ye wind at S-W and one of ye three Ships that Sailed
from hear on ye 5 inst returned in hear a gain with ye lorse
of one man and one Cabbuse & 16 fair.
        17 fair and the Ship Squioreil in Compnay with ye Nansay
Sail from Louisbourg bound for Boston.
        18 fair wind at Ntt, but ye wind Shifting to N-E. A bad Storme
Ensues this night 19 and larsted all this day but in ye Eveing the
Wind gits to ye W and the Ship lays tow all night.
        20 Cloudy. We make Sail at 8 o Clock and Spake with a Ship from 
London bound to boston. They inform us of ye death of our
Lord Gorge ye Second, 21 rain wind at S-E and Be E and
we part With ye nancey. 22 fair wind at WNW But
it was calm all night, 23 flying Clouds wind at Wt Squarly
all day. Sound and find 28 farthoms of Worter.
        24 Wind at Wt. 25 fair wind at Wt, This is ye Second Chrismarst
day that i have been from hom. 26 fair and Worm.
        27 fair wind at S - Wt and We make ye Land also See a Ship to
Leeward. She Comes up in ye Eveing with us.
        28 Cloudy and rain. We run into Casco Bay with ye wind
at Eat and Come to an Anchor in ye mouth of ye Bay. And in
the night ye wind Riseing with a grate Swell we are in
Danger of going on Shore But by ye Blessing of God We ride
 it out Saftey. 29 rain ye wind at E-S-E. We Ship our Cabel
 and run up to Casco town, the ~~ and maiso goes on
Shore and now we must Wate for a fair Wind.
        30 fair wind at SW and be .. s [?] John Oteman with me Leve
the Ship Squiorel and go on board a Shoonr Bound to

The
        30 and that in order to go home by land as Amos Hilton
Jonth Burton Robert picket Daniel Bootman and many more.
Also Captn Glover Came on board in ye night and Came home.
        31 the Wind gilling to N-W. About 4 Clok in ye morning We Come to
Sail and Stand a way for marbel-head and thus i am in
A Likely Way to return home again. We make Cape ann
about three in the arfter noon and about nine at night
We git up a brest of Easting point and from that We
stand for marbel-head and git in their a bout 12 at night.
Thus I a rive in New England Safte and Well.
