SMITH CEMETERY
Unique IdCape Breton Location
Balmoral
Frost Property
Richmond County
Cape Breton Island
Nova Scotia, Canada
Name of the Cemetery
Smith
Name List
Gillis, Catherine
Inscription Remarks
The land on which the cemetery is located is nicely cleared and the graves are marked with wooden crosses, painted white. There are names on all the crosses (but no dates) and "R.I.P." on each one.
Herold Frost owns the property and it was he who took us to it on Oct. 21, 1984. He told us that the Gillis graves pre-date the Smith graves and that if memory served him right, Jim Smith died in 1943 and was around 69 years old; that Benjamin Smith died in 1963 at the age of 41; and that Annie B. Smith died about 12 years ago (c. 1972) at the age of c. 70. Mr. Frost said that there's another lone grave in the woods, abour 150 yards from the cemetery, with no marker. It is that of a young boy who died in the winter when "travel" out was difficult.
Cemetery Remarks
The Smith cemetery is on Frost property.
