Sydney Mines, May 6 - The death occurred at his home on Burchell street, Saturday night of Walter McPhee, well known and highly respected resident. He had been ill for some time and to a wide circle of friends and associates the news of his passing will be keenly regretted. He was 44 years old, a member of the Town band and Canadian Legion, having served overseas with the 106th Battalion. Besides his widow, he is survived by his father, Alexander McPhee, Woodill street [45 Woodill Street], Sydney also three sisters, Miss Elizabeth McPhee, R.N., Mrs Harvey Woodill, Sydney and Mrs Clarence E Kunkle, New Jersey, and four brothers, Jack in Montreal, Stewart, New Jersey, Dan in New York and Murdock, Sydney. Another brother Hughie predeceased him less than a year ago in Ottawa, and his mother passed away a few years ago. Burial will take place here on Tuesday

The remains of Mrs (Capt) John MacKenzie, formerly resident on Woodill street, who died in Flint, Michigan, in Thursday, are expected to arrive in Sydney by Sunday morning’s express for burial on Sunday afternoon from the old homestead on Woodill street. Service is to be held at two o’clock. ATTEND FUNERAL Despite the severity of the weather large numbers turned out on Sunday afternoon to attend the funeral of Mrs (Capt.) J A MacKenzie, well known woman, who died in Flint, Michigan, last week. Service was held at the home of Robert Drake, Woodill street, and at Hardwood Hill cemetery by Rev John MacKinnon, retired Baddeck minister, and favorite hymns of the deceased were sung by St Andrew’s United church choir. Late J K MacKenzie, of Baddeck, is a son of the deceased, and daughters include Miss Ann MacKenzie, of the office of Hon.
