LYNDA'S CORNER
Lynda Jean Richards, b. Rimmer, m. Krause

UKRANIAN/RUSSIAN/ENGLISH/IRISH ROOTS

SUMMARY

(1) One part of Lynda's Corner is Ukrainian - The Chwedchuk line.

The genealogy on your Mother's Chwedchuk side is complicated because the territory that is involved is Belarus, which over time was controlled, at one time or another, by Belorussians, Ukrainians, Russians, and Poles. When Russia was in control, it actively conducted a policy of Russification, which included restricting and prohibiting the language of Ukraine.
  • Great, Great Grandfather: Peter (Petrov) Chwedchuk, of STARA STRELNA, BELORUSSIA and Great, Great Grandmother: UNKNOWN
  • Great Grandfather: Daniel (Daniil) Petrov Chwedchuk (1876-1949), b. STARA STRELNA, BELORUSSIA and Great Grandmother: Catherine (Ekaterina) Woytowich ([?]-1921 or 1922), b. probably STARA STRELNA, BELORUSSIA
  • Grandfather: Anthony (Anton, Antoni, Tony) Chwedchuk (1900-1961), b. DROHICZYN, STARA STRELNA, BELORUSSIA and Grandmother: Alexandra (Sonia) Maximovna Shalagin (1902-1984), b. KRASNO-USOLSKII, RUSSIA
  • Mother: Lydia (Lidia, Lida, Lidochka) Chwedchuk (1926-2012), b. STARA STRELNA, POLAND

Thus: At any rate, your Great, Great Grandfather Chwedchuk, Your Great Grand Father, and your Grand Father "Tony" was born when the territory belonged to Belarus. When your Great, Great Grandfather Chwedchuk was born in Belarus, his town was located just across the border from Ukraine.

Now then, when your mother and brother Leonard were born, the territory was then controlled by Poland. To complicate matters even more, Leonard described "Tony" , who was born in Belarus, as being Ukrainian

(2) One part of Lynda's Corner is Russian - The Shalagin line.

Now as for Nanny, your Grandmother. This is easy. She was Russian, and, though little is known of this side, her ancestors before her were no doubt all Russian too.

 --------------------------------

(3) One part of Lynda's Corner is English - The Rimmer line.
  • GGGGGG Grandfather: John and GGGGGG Grandmother: UNKNOWN
  • GGGGG Grandfather: John Rymmer (1730-) and GGGGG Grandmother: Isabell Blondell (christened February 13, 1729/1730-), ST. CUTHBERTS, NORTH MEOLS, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND
  • GGGG Grandfather: John Rymer (1771-1855), b. MARSHSIDE, ST. CUTHBERT, NORTH MEOLS, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND, and GGGG Grandmother: Ann Wright (1773-1852), b. MARSHSIDE, ST. CUTHBERT, NORTH MEOLS, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND
  • GGG Grandfather:  John Rymer (1792-), b. MARSHSIDE, ST. CUTHBERT, NORTH MEOLS, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND and GGG Grandmother: Nanny (Tinsley) Wright (1793-December-1863), b. CHURCH TOWN, ST. CUTHBERT, NORTH MEOLS, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND
  • Great Great Grandfather: Richard Rimmer (1837-), b. CHURCHTOWN, NORTH MEOLS, [SOUTHPORT] LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND and Great Great Grandmother: UNKNOWN
  • Great Grandfather: John Rimmer (c. 1861-), b. BIRKENHEAD, CHESHIRE and Great Grandmother: Alice Knowles (c. 1862-), b. ASHTON IN MAKERFIELD, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND
  • Grandfather: Joseph Rimmer (1886-c. 1952), b. ASHTON IN MAKERFIELD, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND and Grandmother: Mary Morrissey (1880- 1959), b. ASHTON IN MAKERFIELD, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND [daughter of Michael Morrissey (c. 1851-), b. IRELAND and Bridget Ryan (1853-) b. IRELAND]
  • Father: Richard Rimmer (1915-1970), b. OLDHAM SOUTH, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND

Now, then on your Father's side. This is easy too. All his Rimmer ancestors from Joseph (your Dad's father) - all the way back to before 1730 - are English (England).

--------------------------------

(4) One part of Lynda's Corner is Irish - The Morrissey line.
  • Great Great Grandfather: Denis Morrissey [Dionysii Morrissy] (b. About 1820-1835, Ireland-1876) and Great Great Grandmother: Unknown
  • Great Grandfather: Michael Morrissey (c. 1851-), b. County Tipperary, Ireland and Great Grandmother: Bridget Ryan [Brigittam Ryan] (1858-1917), b. Newport, County Tipperary, Ireland
  • Grandmother: Mary Morrissey (1880- 1959), b. Ashton In Makerfield, Lancashire, England

Now, as for your other grandmother - Mary - the wife of Joseph (your Dad's mother), she was Irish. Both her father (Morrissey) and Mother (Ryan) were born in Ireland.

Note:

Finally, re your Dad, Richard Rimmer. His blood line is both English and Irish, and he associated far more with his Catholic, Irish mother than with his Protestant, English father. He was also a practising Catholic (even apparently an alter boy) - which his Irish mother (a practising Catholic) would have insisted on in those days- as late as 1942 when he joined the Canadian army and attested to that fact.

And, so that would explain why he would have said that he was Irish as you have said.
