JACOB MICHAEL LOEWEN

History He was living in Tiegenhof, Prussia at the time of his baptism in 1792. He migrated from Prussia to Russia in 1804 in the company of Claas Wiens (b. ca 1777) #47067 and is said to have been a relative of Claas Wiens (P. Rempel, p. 80). His age is given as 25 in that 1804 immigration list, which is apparently incorrect since it is not consistent with his ages as given in the 1808 and 1835 Censuses. His year of birth is given as 1775 in the records of H. H. Neufeld #483001, which is consistent with his ages as given in the 1808 and 1835 Censuses. He may be the same Jakob Loewen #46044 who migrated from Petershagen, Prussia to the Molotschna Colony in 1803 (B. H. Unruh, p. 342). In the 1808 Molotschna Colony Census he is listed at Ladekop #20 (B. H. Unruh, p. 319). The 1808 Census incorrectly states that he was from Spittelhoff, Amt Elbing, Prussia, when it was actually his wife and her first husband Johann Sawatzky who were from Spittelhoff. In the 1835 Census he is listed at Lichtenau #15, where it says he came to Russia in 1804, transferred from Ladekop to Lichtenau in 1823, and transferred to the Chortitza Colony in 1836. The 1835 Census entry for Ladekop #26 says he transferred from there to Lichtenau in 1823. He transferred to Rosenthal, Chortitza Colony in 1836 per Odessa Archive, Fonds 6, Inventory 1, File 4127. He appears to be the Jacob Loewen listed in Rosenthal in the 1847 Chortitza Colony Heads of Households List.
