THE KRAUSE-FEDERER FOREHAND SWING COMPARISON

Here, Roger illustrates a fairly standard racquet position for the farthest-back point of the backswing. Having the racquet point at the back fence is entirely standard, but Roger's stringbed is facing downward more than one would usually see with the nearly Eastern forehand grip he is using. The racquet should face downward somewhat on the backswing, because it naturally opens up as you swing forward.

Here, as you can see, the younger Federer, following years of hard work, and numerous instructor changes, has finally achieved what Krause was doing when the future 15 Grand Slam singles titles champion was still in diapers! Fortunately too, since this picture was taken, Krause has signed so many autographs that his hand is now frozen in the face downward position so he no longer has to ever again think on the courts how to properly hit a forehand.
