Mary Cannon of Falmouth ... That ... in the Year of our Lord 1784, [she?] applyed to Samuel Sparrow of Halifax in the province aforesaid [Nova Scotia] Merchant [scratched out] to obtain from him an assortment of different Kinds of Merchandises proper for supplying the Estates of [scratched out] Lieutenant governor Desbarres, at Petticoudiac and Memramcook in the County of Westmoreland in the province of New Brunswick and for Some other Goods, for the use of the said Lieutenant governor DesBarres and his Family; - - That in Consequence of such Application by this Deponent, the said Samuel Sparrow did on or about the Seventh Day of April, in the Year 1785, furnish the Articles charged in the Amount N^o1. hereunto annexed, amounting in the whole, to One hundred and fifteen pounds & one penny Lawful money of the said province of Nova Scotia, which Amount in Bill of parcels was inclosed in a Letter addressed to this Deponent which Letter and Bill were as this Deponent verily believed, in the Handwriting of the said Samuel Sparrow, she having often seen the Samuel Sparrow writs [scratched out] this Deponent at the like Instance of the Deponent furnish other Articles for the said Lieutenant Governor DesBarres, his Family and his aforesaid Estates amounting, to the Sum of Seven hundred and fifty [seven?] pound & fourteen Shillings Sterling as charged in an Invoice by the said Samuel Sparrow transmitted to this Deponent in a Letter hereunto annexed and marked N^o2. which as this Deponent verily believed in the Handwriting of the said Samuel Sparrow - That the Articles charged in the last mentioned [amounts?] were all except the Amount of Ninety two pounds nineteen shillings and Six pence sent to Mr. Hugh M^cMonasle aforesaid for the use of the said Estates, and that this Deponent did soon after the [Receipt?] of this Invoice or Bill last mentioned, from the said Samuel Sparrow transmit, the Same to the said Hugh M^cMonasle, after having entered in a memorandum Book, now in her possession, the amount of the said Bill or Invoice, And that she this Deponent did some time afterwards, receive the Letter marked N^o3, and hereunto annexed from the Said Hugh M^cMonasle, acknowledging the Receipts of the Said Goods - This Deponent also [Saith], that she paid the Said Samuel Sparrow, the whole Amount of the said two Invoices or Bills, being eight hundred and fifty one pounds, & four Shillings Sterling by Bills or or [sic] Drafts by her drawn on the said Lieutenant Governor DesBarres, the Receipt of which Bills were acknowledged by the said Samuel Sparrow in a Letter here unto annexed marked N^o4., for which Sum the Said Samuel Sparrow informed this Deponent he had received the Bills of the said Lieutenant Governor DesBarres, on his Agents in England, and that the [Same?] were paid this Deponent also with, that afterwards to wit, in or about the Month of March 1786, she received another Supply of Merchandise of different Kinds from the Said Samuel Sparrow, amounting to eighty eight Pounds and twelve Shillings, charged in the Bill or Invoice hereunto annexed and marked N^o5., which Bill or Invoice last mentioned, was inclosed in a Letter, in the Handwriting of the said Samuel Sparrow hereunto annexed, and marked N^o6., which Invoice is she this Deponent believes, by Mistake, erroneously dated 15^th March 1785 [editor: i.e. the date should have been 15^th March 1786] ; - this Deponent also saith, that the Said Samuel Sparrow did agree with this Deponent to furnish the said Supplies and all Other goods he should furnish, for or on Account of the said Lieutenant governor DesBarres of the best Quality and at an Advance, of no more than five percent above and over the Sterling Costs & Charges of and upon the [Same] - this deponent further Saith that she saw and examined many of the Goods by him Sent Sent [sic] to the aforesaid Estates that they were of an inferior Quality, were old Goods, almost decayed and were in the Opinion of this Deponent charged much above the value of prime Goods of the same kind - This Deponent further Saith, that the said Samuel Sparrow did [purchase] out of the Supreme Court of the province of Nova Scotia, aforesaid a writ of attachment against the [scratched out] Goods & Chattels & Estates of the said Lieutenant Governor DesBarres, marked for four thousand and forty one pounds, a copy of which writ is hereunto annexed and marked N^o7. by virtue of which said writ, the property and Estates of the Said Lieutenant Governor DesBarres, in the County of Cumberland in the province last [aforesaid], were attached and the Tenants engaged in fitting and cultivating the said Estates, were alarmed And for fear of being depossessed of the Said property by the said Samuel Sparrow ...by the privileges of the said Samuel Sparrow ... Said Lieutenant
