A new British Colony is forming here, under the auspices of ---- Des Barres ... Government hired a large ship, loaded her with every necessary for settling a Colony, and gave a number of adventurers their passage in her ... Unfortunately no attention seems to have been paid in London to the morals or characters of the adventurers who embarked in this project ... to case their country of a nuisance; for, a few Germans excepted, they are a collection of the most indolent, profligate vagabones, that ever disgraced a kid ship.
I arrived here on November 27, and though they had been on shore three weeks, the public store-houses was not covered in ...
Most fortunate for them, Captain Stone [John Stone].... arrived in the Hermoine fregate ... [sic Hermione fregate]
Upon the whole, we may justly ascribe the preservation of this infant Colony to the humanity, care, and assiduity of Captain Stone and his people ...
