St. Richard's Cemetery Markers

These transcriptions are from the grave markers at Stella Maris and St. Richards Roman Catholic cemeteries in Louisbourg, Nova Scotia, Canada. They provide the very basic data found on the stone, though design, artwork or sentiments are seldom recorded. Additional information can be found by referring to the digital images of the markers, Sandra Ferguson’s data, and by visiting the cemeteries.

There are 9 markers in St. Richard’s cemetery and 8 are identifiable. There is a wooden cross but no record of the burial and a marble stone that has deteriorated beyond the point where anything is recognizable. The marble stone is probably the one documented by Sandra Ferguson as belonging to Annie Kehoe, daughter of George & Mary, who died on November 20, 1894 aged 26 years.

Kennedy, Dinnis, 1845-1882, his wife, Henrietta Price, 1851-1927, children Dinnis, 1878-1893, Ellen E., 1875-1901, Theabault M., 1881-1884, James, 1876-1938, marble monument.

Wheatley, Charlie, Our Infant babe, 8 weeks, 3 days, son of Chas. W. & Ellen Wheatley, marble stone now laid flat.

O’Toole, Richard, died November 23, 1877 aged 63 years, O’Toole, Ellen, died June 24, 1860, grey granite monument.

Bourgeois, Catherine, beloved wife of Theotime P. Bourgeois, born Oct 26, 1869, died July 15, 1897, marble stone now laid flat.

Phalen, Thomas, 1833-1915, Kehoe, Phoebe, 1842-1876, grey granite stone laid flat (installed in June 2005) in front of iron cross made many years ago by Louisbourg blacksmith, Martin Levatte.

Kehoe, Matthew, beloved son of George & Mary Kehoe, died June 28, 1897, aged 27 years,, marble stone, now laid flat.

Lorway, John, died Dec. 27, 1916, aged 85 years, his wife Jane Shaw, died Sept 11, 1897, aged 49 years, marble stone now laid flat.
