I met with Janet Bloom (Assistant Archivist), Brian Leigh Dunnigan (Curator of Maps), and  John C. Harriman (Reading Room Supervisor, Assistant Editor). I informed them that I was not interested at this moment with anything readily available on their excellent Web Site (http://www.clements.umich.edu/clempage.html), with maps and plans, or with published material because of the short nature of this visit. I stressed that I was looking for Louisbourg and related (i.e. 18th-century construction techniques, etc.) manuscripts acquired since Louisbourg staff last visited or wrote to them.  While they were not aware of any specific examples, they assured me that  their acquisition programme was still active (indeed they recently acquired a published German map of Louisbourg, a copy of  which we may already have).

If Louisbourg should wish copies of anything, they should write to Dr. John Dann, Director, W.L. Clements Library.

At any rate, I concentrated on two things; their manual card  catalogue system, and on the paper inventory of the Thomas Gage Papers. Their multiple card catalogue system quickly revealed to me that most of what was described there we no doubt already had [see NOTE at the end of this report], and  their Thomas Gage papers appeared to reflect what we have on microfilm in the archives. However, since I do not recall that we have a finding aid to the Gage Papers, I made some select notes which may prove beneficial. At the very least, they will act as a supplementary finding aid if indeed one already exists at Louisbourg. Not all my notes provide a clear line to Louisbourg, and no doubt not all will all actually lead to Louisbourg upon investigation, but, nevertheless, I provide them for what they may be worth:
