- Louisbourg
Lighthouse Trail:
- Beginning
at the Lighthouse and continuing (east) on to Gun Landing and
Wolfe's Coves, This trail is being built by the Coastal Trails
Association with assistance from a number of agencies, including
Parks Canada. There will be six panels this year but there are plans
to continue the trail to the site boundary at Big Lorraine.
- Lighthouse:
- There are two
Historic Sites and Monuments Board Plaques on the Louisbourg
lighthouse itself - one commemorating the earlier lighthouse and one
the defenders of the Island Battery.
- Lighthouse
Panels:
- There are six
ground interp panels dealing with topics such as the Lighthouses,
the Island Battery and Louisbourg Harbour.
- Wolfe's Redoubt
Trail:
- A short trail
leading to Wolfe's Redoubt - a 1758 siegework. Parking to access the
trail is near the exit of Parking Lot 5 at the Visitor Reception
Centre (VRC). The trail has six panels dealing with the second
siege, siegeworks and the redoubt.
- Mi'kmaw Trail
(please note spelling of Mi'kmaw for use as adjective):
- This is
another short trail leading to a look-off behind the VRC. The
trailhead is near and across the road from the VRC. There are six
panels dealing with Mi'kmaw history and culture.
- Royal Battery:
- There are
seven panels dealing with the construction and use of the Royal
Battery.
- Harbour and
Significance Panels:
- There are
four panels located near at the Des Roches property (ie. near the
on-site bus stop). They deal with topics related to the harbour and
a summary statement of the historical significance of Louisbourg.
- On-site Panels:
- There are
five ground interp panels on site explaining the Dugas, Loppinot and
Fizel houses (the first is reconstructed and the latter two are
stabilized foundations) and the Louisbourg Cross and Parish Church.
- Ruins Walk:
- This summer
there will be 27 panels on the Ruins Walk (including the trailhead).
This represents an increase of three.
- Kennington Cove:
- There are
three panels interpreting the siege landings, aboriginal allies and
the history of Kennington Cove. There is also the HSMBC Plaque to
Wolfe's Landing on the cairn.
- Flat/Simon Point:
- There are no
panels at this location although there is a short trail that takes you
to the mouth of Freshwater Brook. The beach at the mouth of the brook is
where many of the troops, stores and artillery were landed in both
sieges.
