FOREWORD
The selection lists in this binder are for Louisbourg material in Manuscript Group 8, Manuscript Group 11 and Manuscript Group 18 of the Public Archives of Canada. Manuscript Group 18, by far the largest series, consists of a collection of original documents and photostatic copies of originals dating, from the period prior to the British conquest of Canada.
When using this binder the reader should follow along in the Public Archives of Canada Preliminary Inventory for the respective Manuscript Group for a description of the various series etc, in which the documents are contained.
There are index cards for all references in the selection lists. However, the Louisbourg Archives also possesses all of the Northcliffe Collection MG 18 M on microfilm and the Lieut. Wm. Augustus Gordon Journal [under the Royal United Service Institute] MG 18 N 41; the Jeffery Amherst [filed in Box 25] and Wm. Amherst Journals of the 1758 siege are also on photostatic copies.
Great care must be taken in using the index cards. They must not be lost or defaced and are not to be removed from the Archives under any circumstances.
