(1743-53)
- Drafts of
official correspondence, including a letter book for 1752-53, military
memoranda, letters received, and personal and public accounts.
Particularly complete for the period of Clinton's governorship;
contains detailed material of Indian relations and political affairs,
with other papers on the campaigns during King George's War (1744-48),
and a fairly complete record of Clinton's finances. Important
correspondents include Stephen Bayard; James Hamilton; Sir William
Johnson; Sir Charles Knowles; Spencer Phips; John Roberts; George
Thomas; and Sir Peter Warren.

significant are Cadwallader Colden, Sr., and William Shirley.

- Of an
expedition to Louisbourg with an account of life on the coast of Cape
Breton. The record begins with the departure from Nantucket for
Louisbourg in the Oliver, goes to Cape Breton, account of events
follows, detailing movements of troops and vessels. Closes with the
surrender. Bound with another diary of the previous year, evidently by
the same hand.

of the city and fortress of Louisbourg, the harbour, and their environs,
from Freshwater Cove in Gabarouse Bay to about a mile to the eastward of
the Lighthouse Point; showing the places the forces landed at, with the
intrenchments and batteries, the French had made to oppose the same. The
encampments of the several regiments during the time the place was
besieged, with the redoubts, batteries and approaches of the siege, as
also the road, made by His Britannick Majesty's troops to advance the
heavy artillery, etc. Surveyed by William Bontein, engineer extraordinary,
pursuant to the orders of Major General Amherst, commander in chief under
the direction of Col. Bastide, Chief Engineer, etc.
