This reference work can be used as an interpretative tool or training manual by those engaged as painter -craftsmen in the animation program at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Park. The content consists of a carefully collated body of information taken from numerous eighteenth century and recent authoritative works on the subject (see Bibliography), and was incorporated where its context related directly to the "known" sum total of eighteenth century Louisbourg primary evidence. If new Louisbourg primary evidence should surface, additional information to the subject may be obtained from the listed works, as they by no means have been exhausted. The appropriate artisan tool manual should be consulted for designs of the tools and implements mentioned in the text.
