FOR THE BIRDS
March 1989
By
Helen O'Shea
Though bird sightings have been up for Cape Breton this winter, it was pretty slim pickings in Louisbourg before the ice storm. Now you can't keep them away from the feeders. A list of birds to be an the look out for include: Bluejays, Canada Jays, Starlings, Evening Grosbeaks, Juncoes, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Purple Finch, Song Sparrows, Tree Sparrows, Pine Siskins, Gold Finch, Snow Buntings and White-winged Crossbills. As mentioned last year anyone interested shouldn't be without a copy of Roger Tory Peterson's, A Field Guide to the Birds.
Keep an eye out for the bald eagles buzzing the town and soaring over the harbour. They are a wonder to behold.
