TIANS Conference
This year’s TIANS conference was held November 5 - 7 at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our ceramic festival poster won Honourable Mention in the poster contest.
Also congratulations to Highlands Links!! They won best the "Adventure & Recreation" sector award for 2000 for environmental excellence and being # 1 in Canada.
Statistics
On October 31st., the 2000 visitor season officially came to a close. 123,328 visitors had passed through our Visitor Centre since May 1st. This is down significantly from the previous year when we had 135,563 in 1999. This can be attributed to the Encampment that took place last year. Of our visitation, 101,000 were adults, seniors, or families and about 12,000 came on commercial buses. 87,000 visitors were Canadian, almost 27,000 came from the United States and just over 10,000 came from outside of North America (mainly Europe). The highest Canadian visitation originated in Ontario (26,000) while 2500 visitors came from Maryland, the highest of all the United States. Our biggest European country was Germany with almost 3700.
Training
A seminar regarding Due Diligence was held
November 22nd. Anne MacMullin, Health Canada
was the facilitator. Any staff who may have missed
this seminar should notify Valerie White as all employees should have this training.
Diversity Training took place November 30th for all those who may have missed it last spring.
LaVeuve de Saint Pierre
The screening of the above was held at the Empire Theatres in Sydney on Sunday November 19th. All who attended enjoyed the movie. For those of us who missed it, we will just have to wait until it comes to the big screen to see it!!
News from AGB
The museum is quiet most days now but we do get a few visitors and requests for group visits such as the Air Cadet group made up of about 100 cadets from Newfoundland and Sydney Mines who will visit on November 19th.
All the lawn mowers have been retired for the season and the flower beds have been put to sleep for the winter but not until General Works in the persons of Gary Pierrard and Kathy Kerr planted more than 1000 tulip, narcissus and hyacinth bulbs. Should be delightful in the spring.
