NATIONAL HISTORIC SITES CAPE BRETON
Vol. 4, No. 1, January - Janvier, 2002
Parks Canada Website
As
part of the Canadian Cultural Online Canadian Memory Fund, the Fortress of
Louisbourg has been selected as one of the 17 historic sites and national
parks which will be included in a new web project.
Sandy Balcom and Mark Sajatovich spent three days in Ottawa.
One of the interesting aspects of the project will be a 3D fly through
of an animated Fortress. Due to
size constraints, the King’s Bastion and the Dauphin Demi-Bastion will be
the main focus of the animated Fortress.
The theme is “The Defence of Canada.”
Everyone has been busy gathering digital pictures of the fortifications
and scanning plans in order to develop a package of images that can be used
for this project. It should be up and running by March, 2002.
Stoneware
Development
Jim
Campbell is working with a potter in Halifax to develop a stoneware cooking
pot for use on the site. It is
based on artefacts from the Louisbourg collection and the research of Jean
Pierre Chrestien from the Museum of Civilization.
Jim
Campbell also recently discovered that the Bata Show Museum in Toronto wants
to extend the loan of an l8th century woman’s shoe that is on display
Rails
of Adventure
Rails
of Adventure is a television series of thirteen
30-minutes episodes on adventure tourism in Canada produced by Greenspace Productions in conjunction with the Canadian Tourism Commission. In each episode, three specialised guides lead us to discover the history, geography and cultural heritage of their regions. In addition, the guides will tell adventure stories, anecdotes, tales and legends to illustrate who they are and what they are about. Kevin LeBlanc was the guide for the Louisbourg segment.
The
first English broadcast of this series will take place on the Discovery Travel
channel sometime in March, 2002.
The exact times and dates will be announced when they are known.
