Would artillery sergeants carry the halberd?
Apparently not. In the equipment requested for the artillery in 1743, cited in Gilles Proulx’s “Study of Military costume at Louisbourg” May 1971, there is no halberd requested for a sergeant of the artillery (or anyone else). In his 1979 revision of this report, Proulx indicates on a table that there is no information as to the artillery sergeants’ possession or lack of a halberd. (Proulx, 1979, Table XVI, pg. 79).
