How frequent was desertion?

At Louisbourg it was relatively infrequent, less than 10 soldiers per year. It was mentioned that there was, during the 1730s and 40s a detachment assigned to pursue deserters in the woods, Josephe Alexandre le Neuf de Boisneuf (John Sylliboy’s persona) as a cadet was assigned to this detachment.

At Rochefort after 1745 about one third of the garrison deserted, probably because of fear of reprisal for the mutiny.
