The following papers accompanied the letter from Mr. Gerry to the Secretary of State, immediately on his arrival from France, dated Nantasket Road, October 1, 1798.

By the 6th article of the treaty of alliance, France has renounced the Bermudas, New Brunswick, Nova-Scotia, cape breton, Canada, in other words, it has renounced the procuring for itself of one of the ports, which would have been so necessary for it to possess for the protection of its sugar islands. ...
