Sir,
A few days ago Mr. Meriweather arrived here, and delivered me the favor of your letter of 16th December, whereupon I immediately cancelled the commission I had granted top Mr. McClenachan, & signed another of the same date in favor of Mr. Meriweather, agreable to your request, & he sets out this day for Boston, on his way to joyn the regiment at Louisbourg.

... The Brigantine Success, Thomas Morrison Master, arrived here last Monday from Belfast, was, on the 21st ult. in Lat. 33. 44. Lon. 58. taken by the Diana Privateer of Bayonne, M. Simonin, and ransomed for 500 Guineas. The French Captain had before taken a Guernsey Ship, a West India Packet Boat (with all the Mails on board, except that for Barbados, which had been landed) a Schooner from Antigua for Essequebo; a Brig from Bristol for Martinico, James Thomson Master; and the Snow cape breton, Captain Wilson, from New York for the West Indies, all which were sent away for Port Louis, in Hispaniola, except Captain Wilson, who was put on board the Success, and from whom we have this Information. ....

Whereas We have taken into Our Royal Consideration the extensive and valuable
Acquisitions in America, secured to our Crown by the late Definitive Treaty of
Peace concluded at Paris, the 10th Day of February last ...
We do likewise authorize and require the Governors and Commanders in Chief of all our said Colonies upon the Continent of North America to grant the like Quantities of Land, and upon the same conditions, to such reduced Officers of our Navy of like Rank as served on board our Ships of War in North America at the times of the Reduction of Louisbourg and Quebec in the late War, and who shall personally apply to our respective Governors for such Grants ...
