English commander in which he wrote information
about the size of the garrison and the best way to
stage an assault on the city. The plot was
discovered by a drummer of the garrison who turned
the soldier in. The traitor was hanged for his

north side of the harbour. That evening an the
way to spend the night at the managerie of Sr.
Muyron, he and two others met a cede who was
drunk near the place where Sr. Fizel kept his sheep.
After leaving the man to sleep on the ground near
the sheep pen, Chaperon returned to try to get him
to go to the managerie for the night. His comrade
was later arrest entering the pen and trying
to steal some sheep. Chaperon was identified as
having helped, but he claimed that he was only
trying to persuade his friend to come with him.
While François Le Fort dit La Vigne was sentenced
to be publicly beaten for attempted theft, Chaperon
was only given 2 months in prison. He was 33 years
of age at the time and was probably still with the

en 1739" lists this man and several others who
deserted on the same day - 30 November 1744 - as
being in De Laperelle's Company. By 1744, however,
De Laperelle was major and his former company was
commanded by Villejouin. In February 1745 the
minister wrote that he had received word that 10
soldiers had deserted from the Louisbourg garrison
aboard a ship of the India Company, apparently
encouraged in their action by the ship's officers.
He ordered that a search be carried out in the
Orient for the men, that the offending ship's
officers be punished, and that in the future no
soldiers be allowed on board India Company ships
without the express permission of their commanding
officer. Several men are listed as having deserted
on 30 November 1744 and since there is no other
record of a mass desertion around this time, it is
assumed that these were the men who boarded the
							India Company ship.

Lemine, René Antoine	St. Amant	De Games	Tried for theft in 1740 but probably acquitted.

the Place D'Armes, St. Amant got permission from a
sergeant to go to the house of a married soldier of
his company for dinner. After leaving this house he

house of Sr. De Lort. The other man, a navigator by
