Reference Notes.

1. The measurements given here to indicate the distance between the wharves, the length of the flanks and the length of the faces are purely approximate and are nowhere found in the documents. We have calculated them ourselves using the scale of the maps and plans we consulted. We give them for information purposes only. The other figures given: the length of the quay, of the curtain, width of the terreplein, measurements of the wharves, of the sluice, dimensions of the revetment, etc. . . are to be found in one or other of the sources mentioned above. We did not think it necessary to give the exact references since there are not many of these references and they are not very extensive.

2. 8 February 1744. (Verrier, in Versailles). A.C. C11B (Vol. 26), fol. 20-202, [200].

3. This is the measurement given by Franquet on the plan he made of it: MAC-100 (1751-5). However, the report of Hopson and Bastide (14-25 July 1749),, (NS/?34/p. 161) describes it as being 70 feet long.

4. 13 April 1753. (Rouillé ?? Franquet). A.C. B (Vol. 97). [fol. 297].

5. Génie/14/Louisbourg "tablette"/no 5. Map No. 2.
