HELPFUL HINT
Going to our top ten gateways on ../homeeng/default.htm is always a good place to begin a project since here matters of a like nature are conveniently grouped. For example, if you are undertaking research go to "Research ~ Archaeology, Genealogy, and History" where, if you are looking for a written report, all have been grouped under the heading "Research Reports".
In 1995, the Louisbourg Institute began to computerize select reports of the Fortress of Louisbourg that were issued during its formative years (1961-1985). Because almost all of these reports were in paper format, some were re-typed, others were scanned and underwent optical character recognition (OCR). As you can appreciate this is a slow process, but headway is being made. Some of these reports are now in word-processing format (usually Wordperfect), and others are in html or text format. While only the wordperfect copies can be found on the Fortress of Louisbourg network, both formats are available on the Institute site.
New reports are being added on a routine basis, so check periodically. It would also be appreciated if any errors or omissions in these reports are found that they be reported to the webmaster.

NEW RESEARCH SERIES
The "Historical Memoranda Series, 1964-present" has been added as a new research series. The idea is to link to the individual memos as they become computerized. However, even without its links, the series becomes a useful research tool of what is available, and will now be indexed by web crawlers and others like google. Go to:

USEFUL REPORTS
The Fortress of Louisbourg holds research material from around the world. From time to time, permission must be sought to publish an item from one of these repositories. To facilitate matters, the Louisbourg Institution is in the process of identifying their addresses. Go to research tools where you will find "General Inventory of Archival Holdings: Manuscripts, Maps and Plans: Contact Information as of July 1, 2003" at:
