(FORTRESS OF LOUISBOURG
REPORT: HB701K72004)

PREFACE

The landscapes and structures described in this report include only those which impacted upon the streets under review. Features of a same block which fronted another street were generally, though not always, ignored.

Property development demanded perimeter fences, and piquet is the assumed type along streets where they were required. Other fence types are described only when they differ from this traditional form.

A mature construction footprint along a lot's street face reflects a particular span of time - i.e. a phase - frozen for interpretive purposes, with its commencement date noted. Often, properties evolved through many phases.

Additional details concerning the blocks and reports extracted in this check list are available as follows: Existing Block and Lot reports - which this check list identifies at the appropriate location; The Fortress of Louisbourg computerized "Property" database - which is available on park's public network (drive "textworks"); and, Wayne Foster’s Post Occupational History of the Old French Town of Louisbourg, 1760 - 1930, Fortress of Louisbourg Unpublished Report H D 02 (December, 1965).
