According to Verville:

Le Gouverneur fit faire une maison de charpente sans etage pour se loger de plein pied, et pour mieux faire son marché avec des ouvriers sous se conduite il avoitenvoye les deux ingénieurs de la place ... de maniere qu'il fit faire la fonction d'ingénieur et d'entrepreneur à ceux qui lui plut de nommer.

... cette maison est bâti sur le glacis intérieur du bastion du Roy, il est nécessaire de la faire demolir pour continuer louvrage qui a été commancé sur cette partie ...(240)

According to an examination of a building which François Tallard de Paris, living in Port Toulouse, had built on land owned by the Widow Degoutin:

Nous soussigne Pierre de Large et claude Morin Mr charpentiers et habitant de ce lieu Nommez doffice par nos Seigneurs du conseil Superieur suivant lordonnance du Samedy Unzieme [sic] decembre dernier, a nous remise par la dame veuve degoutin pour examiner le bois d'une maison de charpente de 30 pieds de long de hors en dehors et de 20 pieds de large de dedans de dedans qui avoit esté dressée par le nommé françois Tallard de Paris habitant du Port Toulouse sur un terrain marqué pour ladte Dame Veuve, prés lhopital du Roy et qui fust abatue par un coup de vent. Et aprés nous estre transporté sur led. terrain ou ayant Effectivement trouvé ladte charpente en un bloc et en tres mauvais etat, nous avons procedé ala visite des pieces parmis lesquelles Nous avons trouvé deux grandes Sablieres pourries et gatés

Et Estimé un remplacement de 200 pieds de bois de chevrons pour retablir les enteaittes Eguilles, guitre et autres pieces qui sont cassées. Lesquels deffauts et celuy d'avoir manqué a bien fonder la charpente a esté cause de la chute et du dommage quelle a souffert et que doit sans doute estre reparé par led. françois Talalard d. Paris suivant les conditions de son marché, En foy de quoy nous avons dressé le present que nous remettrons au greffe dud conseil aussay quil est ordonné pour Servir et valoir ce que de raison. fait a Louisbourg le 8e janvier 1724.(241)

The council ordered Tallard to replace the pieces of wood found to be defective as well as 200 pieds of bois de chevrons to replace all the broken pieces within Tout le cours de Six Semains a compte du jour que la Navigation dicy au port Toulouse Commencera a estre libre & praciquable ... with Tallard paying all the expenses of the action. The King noted that because the building's roof needed a complete repair, it be demolished rather than be turn it into a magasin:

Elle n'a point aprouvé La proposition que Le Sr. de [St.] Ovide a fait de destiner Lancienne Maison dugouvern[eur] pour Servir de Magasin parcequ'Elle est informeé que pour La mettre en bon Etat il faudroit refaire La Couverture en entier ce qui causeroit une depense considerable qui deviendr[e] dans peu inutile parcequ' Elle se rtrouve sur Le Glaces et l'intention de sa Majesté est qu'Elle soit incessamment demolie n'estant plus occupée par Le Gouverneur ... est qu'Elle soit incessement démolie ...(243)

[Block Two, Lot E] Concession à Dominique Detcheverry,

The [Block Two, Lot E] property conceded in 1724 was bounded on the west by Sabatier [Block Two, Lot D] and on the north by Rodrigue [Block Two, Lot H], and ran 46 pieds along the Rue Royalle and 60 pieds into the block. Confirmation was to follow in 1726 if Detcheverry complied with the terms of the concession. He was expected to mark the boundaries with posts which were 3 pieds in the ground and 4 pieds above ground, build houses and storehouses, and submit to the royal prerogative of removing timber from the property for the repair of king's ships and the construction of king's works (247)

Ayant este Rendu une ordonnance du Roy enregistrée au conseil en datte du ____ pa laquelle l est ordonné aux proprietaires des Concessions de borner leurs terrains par des posteaux de sept pieds de long pour entre mis trois en terre & quatre pieds dehors ce qui na point este executté ou y sur ce Mr le procureur general du Roy le conseil a ordoné et ordonne que les propietaires des Concessions du Costé du Nord feront Mettre dans tout le mois de Juillet prochain des posteaux aux quatre Coins de leurs Concessionsqui seront de bois d aricot ou prusse escary sur les quatre faces portent au moins cinq pouces sur chaque face Bruslé par le bout qui sere dans la terre sous lequel Il sera mis du charbon de Terre, du marchefer, ou de la brique et quil sera marqué avec le Cizeau sur chascun desd posteaux le No dud terrain et a legard des habitans qui ont des terrains Contiques les uns aux autre ils Meteront les bornes qui les separeront par moityé et faute aux proprietaires a trante livres demande aplicable a leglise paroissielle de ce lieu et quil sera mis a leurs depens lesd posteaux fait au Conseil Superieur le jour & an susd ....(248)

Antoine Paris received a Block Sixteen, Lot A compensation for property and buildings ordered demoished in Block One:

Isle Royale, Louisbourg; Concessions. Registre destiné à être versé aux greffes du Conseil Supérieur, à Louisbourg. Ce registre contient des actes de concessions pour des terrains de Louisbourg, Port Dauphin, Port Toulouse, accordées par St-Ovide de Brouillan.

... Pour le dédommager de cet emplacement lui en ont accordé un autre situé dans l'isle no. 16 [Block Sixteen, Lot A], qui contient 90 pieds sur la rue d'orléans, et 60 pieds sur la rue St-Louis, borné à l'ouest par le [Block Sixteen, Lot E (Governor's Garden)] jardin du roi et au nord par un [Block Sixteen, Lot B and C] terrain non concédé. 11 November 1724.(251)

According to an extract from the registers of the council, and judgement of March 23, 1733, Antoine Paris had received a Block Sixteen, Lot A compensation for property and buildings ordered demoished in Block One:

Joseph Ovide de Brouillan Chevalier de l'ordre Militaire de St Louis Gouverneur pour le Roy a lisle Royalle et Jacques ange le Normant de mezy chev. Lorsque Jay eu l'honneur davancer l'année derniere a Mons qui les magasins des vivres seroient cette année en etat de les recevoirs [les vivres] Je nay point entendu parler de ceux determinés par les plans de M. de Verville dont les fondements ne sont point encore Jettés mais bien d'une partie de hangard que fait le retour dequerre de celuy ou logent Mr les Ingenieurs et Mr de Verville Lorsquil est icy. Lequel retour de hangard a deja pres de 80 pieds de long et ne sert que pour les tailleurs de pierre, qui y ont leur attelier, M. de Verville m'avoit dit qu'il feroit achever et je le croyoit parceque l'excavation pour les fondements etoit faites mais on n'y a point du tout travailler cette année ... L'Ingénieur a pris et qu'il a changé tous les ans causent un tort considérable à tous ceux de ce port qui ne font d'autre trafic que celuy de [?], puisque malgré les concessions qu'ils ont en forme, les terrains marqués par led. ingénieur sur lesquels ils se sont bâtis de bonne foy et avec assurance, ils voyent que par un nouveau plan, tous leurs travaux tombent en pure perte pour ceux ...

Pour toute restitution de toutes les batisses quy doivent estre demolies, on offre de rendre un plus grand terrain pour celuy que l'on leurs prend ... (254)
