BARRACK PARK / VICTORIA PARK ADDRESSES 

  •  December 1785: Barracks, a mess house, an infirmary and soldiers' quarters were constructed.

  • Unknown Date When this Occurred: "old Government House and Gardens now Court House and Jail" shown on Almon plan.

  • 1793: An upper and lower earthwork battery named Fort Ogilvie were constructed.

  • By 1808: A powder magazine and gun shed were completed.

  • 1816: The barracks burned down.

  • 1817: The barracks were rebuilt.

  • 1833: New barracks were built.

  • Post 1854: After the British Regulars left, the various buildings were leased out and the grounds became a public park.

  • 1897: Barrack Park was renamed Victoria Park. [Source: Jost Walking Tour Notes]

  • 1940: The Fortress Headquarters was located here with a new construction of Officers' quarters, barracks, hospital, and mess hall.

  • 1999: The armoury was renamed Fort Ogilvie.
