I have visited the Centre d’études acadiennes (Moncton – September 9, 2002) to examine research material that is NOT described on its web site. Lynda Krause provided transcription assistance.

RESEARCH VISIT TO THE CENTRE  D’ETUDES ACADIENNES (UNIVERSITÉ DES MONCTON, MONCTON), SEPTEMBER 9, 2002  ~ CONTENT REPORT

  • BG 1022, Cogliano, Frances D. “Nil Desperandum Christo Duce: the New England crusade against Louisbourg, 1745,” Essex Institute Historical Collections, Volume 128, No. 3, 1992, pp. 180-207.
The Centre owns a copy of this article. I checked the Fortress Library Monographs and Serials databases to see if the Fortress had ever obtained a copy, but it does not seem so. Perhaps order an interlibrary loan from the closest source, and photocopy it.

  • The Centre has an extensive 3x5 card catalogue system of which “manuscripts” form a part. I would write to them and have them photocopy the cards under the following headings: Louisbourg (197 cards); Cap-Breton (c. 52 cards); and Ile Royale (c. 50 cards). Bind these and they will form an important finding aid. It was impossible during my short visit to determine which of these manuscripts the Fortress has/has not on microfilm, but no matter, such a finding aid will prove invaluable for future research projects.
