Fortress of Louisbourg
  
The Contract with the Fortress of Louisbourg reads:

Report on Holdings in Selected 
Repositories in the United States.

During the period I November 2002 - 14 March 2003 the contractor will research and provide a written report which will outline and summarize the documentation related to 18th century Louisbourg, found in four archives/libraries in the United States, in the following subject areas:

1. Business and Merchant History with an emphasis on American colonial construction materials shipped/used at Louisbourg (1713-1758) 

2. Comparative wooden buildings history, e.g. piquet construction and charpente construction used in former French colonies that are part of the United States

3. Other topics relevant to Louisbourg that the researcher may find

The institutions that will be visited for research will include:

  • Harvard University - Baker Library, Cambridge, Massachusetts 
  • Historical Society - Boston, Massachusetts 
  • Newport Historical Society - Newport, Rhode Island 
  • State Historical Society of Missouri - Colombia, Missouri

On the receipt of a report detailing Louisbourg related holdings with summaries of the documentation of contents of the four repositories, to the satisfaction of the Manager, Cultural Resources, the contractor will be paid a sum not to exceed $ ...

Note:  
Storm conditions in the mid-west prevented the contractor from visiting Missouri at this time. Therefore, in its place, visits were made to several other institutions and they are included below under the title "Other Institutions". In addition, under the same title, research material at institutions not visited but of possible interest to the Fortress of Louisbourg have also been described.
