A
collection of commissions, letters and papers, extending from 1784 to
1826, relating to J. F. W. DesBarres, Lieutenant-Governor of the Island of
Cape Breton, 1784-1787, and Thomas Ashfield, who was his private
secretary, as well as solicitor and notary public, clerk of various courts
and commissioner for small debts. The following is a list of the most
