THE JOSTS OF SYDNEY

August 16, 1853

This is the last Will and Testament of one Thomas Jost of the City of Halifax in the Province of Nova Scotia Merchant.

I direct that all my just debts be paid as soon after my decease as may conveniently be done. I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas James the sum of Five thousand Pounds. I also give and bequeath unto my son Joseph the sum of Two Thousand Pounds. All the rest and residue of my property, estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever whether Real or Personal. I give devise and bequeath unto my wife Eliza To Have and to hold unto her and to be profsessed [sic]and enjoyed by her and to be divided and distributed by her among all my other children in such manner and in such shares and propsortions [sic]as in her discretion she may think proper.

I appoint my said wife Eliza and my brothers Edward Jost of Halifax aforesaid barber and James Jost of Sydney in the Island of Cape Breton Merchant and also George R Burchell of the same place Merchant executive and Executor of this my last Will and testament hereby revolving all wills by me hereto made In Witness whereof I the said Thomas Jost have hereunto my hand and seal subscribed and set this sixteenth day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand eight-hundred and fifty three
