Philadelphia, Jan. 8.

....Our late Papers from New York, are filled with Depositions taken from several Persons who have been lately in Canada, and at Louisburg, setting forth that there is no want of Provisions in those Places, and insinuating that the Voyage of the Sloop Le Caesar which lately came to buy Provisions at New York, was only to give an Opportunity to some French Engineers and Pilots to discover the Channel and Way in, and view the Strength of the Fortifications, that they may be better enabled to execute a Design they have upon that Place in case a War should break out between England and France. But some think these Things are published there, rather to embarrass the Governor, than from any Apprehensions they are really under that the French have such a Design ...

New York, May 20, 1734.

On the 18th arrived here the Brigt. Eglinton Capt. Atkinson from Louisburgh on cape breton, in four Weeks Passage. She was bound thither from hence last Fall, in Company with the Sloop Le Caesar, with Provisions. They were blown off the Coast, the Brigt. to Martineque, and the Sloop to St. Thomas: the Brigt. with her Provisions arrived at Louisburgh in March last, on which Te Deum was sung there, the People being almost starved. There was some small Venture of Bread on board, which was sold there for 50s. a hundred New York Money. The Sloop Le Caesar, arrived there about a Fortnight after the Brigt. and a few Days before the Brigt. sailed, a Ship arrived from France, with News that they expected England would declare War with them very soon. ...
