Rapport du nommé Girard La Croix de ce qui s'est passé d'Intéressant à Louisbourg avant et pendant le siège de cette place qui s'est rendue au Roy d'Angleterre par Capitulation Le 28. juin 1745.

25 mars Il est arrivé du port Toulouse à Louisbourg un batteau chargé de bois apartenant au Sieur [Koller] Bourgeois de la dite ville de Louisbourg; Les matelots de ce batiment ont raporté qu'ils avoient vu des batiments par le travers du dit port Toulouse qui cotoyoient le coste depuis le 20 mars ... Instructions given by William Shirley, Governorof Massachusetts, to William Pepperell, Lieutenant General of the forces raised in New-England, for an expedition against the French settlements on the Island of Cape Breton

... An Captain Donahew and Captain Becket, with their vessels, to attend them; who are to have directions, to follow from time to time the commandant's orders, unless countermanded by yourself, after they have been, with an additional party of two hundred men more, and the transports they are on board of, to St. Peter's, on the island of Cape Breton, and destroyed that settlement in which place you will be pleased to note, for your government, there are about two hundred inhabitants, and a number of Indians, all in straggling houses, without any regular defence: which additional party, having completed your orders, at St. Peter's, are to follow and join the fleet at Chappeaurouge [Gabarus] bay, to which place you are to proceed, with the fleet from Canso, in order to attack the town of Louisbourg, which is has been thought may be surprized, if they have no advice of your coming .... As it is not doubted but that the party which goes to St. Peter's will be successful, you may rely on it, that a number of French and Indians, as many at least as escape here, will fly towards Louisbourg for shelter; for whom you will be pleased to order a good look out, by all parties abroad, as well as for a number of inhabitants and soldiers, who it is reasonable to expect are in the woods, cutting timber, palisadoes, &c. to the north- west of the grand battery ...(831)

... On 22 April, two men who had come overland from Port Toulouse told Duchambon of hearing cannon fire from Canso and that work was under way to restore the defences of that place. A third man told of witnessing a battle between French and English ships along the coast .... (836)

[April 14, 1745] ... Donahew arrived from the Gut of canso brought in with him 3 Indian men and women and 3 children whom he took yesterday at the Gut. The 3 men being separately examined declared that the inhabitants of St. Peters were almost all drawn of Agreed unanimously in a Council of War, that the intended Attack on St. Peters should be deferred and that those Forces should attend the main body to Chappeaurouge Bay ... [April 15, 1745] ... Capt Colb [Sylvanus Cobb?] and B in a Whaleboat sent to St. Peters but by reason of Ice there was precented Landing. (839)

[April 29, 1745] ... This Morning the Fleet sailed from Canso to Louisbourgh, Colonel [Jeremiah] Moulton with a detachment of about 400 men were ordered to St. Peters to demolish it under Convoy of Capt. [John] Furnell in the New Hampshire Sloop.(844)

[April 29, 1745] ...And at the same time a detachment of two hundred and Seventy men under the command of a Colonel [Jeremiah Moulton], and convoy of an armed Sloop in the pay of the New Hampshire Government, were sent to St. Peters, a small French settlement on Cape breton with orders pursuant to the before-mentioned plan of Operations to take the Place burn the Houses and demolish the Fort which was accordingly effected ... The People Cheifly fled and made their Escape the Rest they Took Captive. They Loaded all their Vessels and Then Burned the Buildings and they Burn'd 1000 Bushels of wheat in One house. Capt. Jaquis was Killd & one more. The man that was wounded the 23d. of Apl . Dead Several french killd att St. Peters. ....(850)
